Arón Canet: “It’s a pity”
The Dutch TT weekend ended on a sour note for Repsol rider Aron Canet, who leaves Assen without adding to his points tally. A crash in qualifying on Saturday left him low down the order at Assen and, after working his way up into the leading group in the race, another fall on Lap 7 brought his day to a premature conclusion. Teammate Lorenzo Dalla Porta, standing in for the injured Jorge Navarro, finished in a creditable tenth place.

“At the beginning of the race Quartararo and Rodrigo crashed and I dropped far back, but I was able to catch up with the leading group. When I latched onto them I continued climbing positions, but in my attempt to overtake Mir I made a mistake –I was too late on the brakes and I couldn’t avoid hitting Bastianini. The crash was very spectacular but I escaped unhurt; it was a shame and I can only apologize to Juanfran Guevara and the team, who have done a great job all weekend.”
Lorenzo Dalla Porta
“I felt very good out there. It was a shame that we had a crash this morning in the warmup, because I lost a little confidence with the front. However, in the race I gradually felt more comfortable and I saw that other riders had more difficulty than me. In the final section there was a lot of overtaking and I lost touch with the front group. On the last three corners I dropped down three positions because I tried to overtake someone else. I am very happy for my second ‘Top 10’ in the World Championship.”
