Crashes end French GP prematurely for Alonso López and Sergio García

Alonso López started from seventeenth position on the grid. He was up to thirteenth after three laps, but would concede ground and crash at Turn 3, five laps from the end.

Teammate Sergio García started twenty-second after a 12-place grid penalty, despite qualifying tenth in Q2 yesterday.

Making contact with another rider on the opening lap, García went down and was unable to continue. More than a third of the starters would crash at the French GP.

It was a race in which I was quite comfortable, but for some reason it was more difficult for me to overtake and I couldn’t maintain the pace I had in practice in order to be able to progress in the group. In the end we were a little far behind, although we were running a pace similar to that of the front runners.

That was until I lost front grip at Turn 3 and crashed. I struggled less here than last season, and now there are circuits that I like coming up, where I think we can play a good role.

Sergio García

I started well; I knew I could come back and get into the front group. I overtook a couple of riders but, when I passed someone, I was hit from behind when accelerating on the outside and I fell.

It was bad luck for a second race in a row, but we have to keep our heads up. The positive thing about this weekend is that we were quick in practice; I qualified for Q2 and I did very well, finishing tenth. We will continue working in the same way, trying to ride alone and get a good pace for the races.
