Joan Mir: in the colors that excite him
He grew up on skateboards and surfboards, although he soon realized that he was more passionate about nothing than motorcycles. It was then that he switched to the mini-bike and mini-tard categories and began to show signs of his talent. He landed in MotoGP with the ’36’ on his back, inherited from his cousin, Joan Perelló, 125cc rider, who instilled in him, to a large extent, his predilection for motorcycling. His debut in Moto3, the bronze category, was in 2015 and, just a year later, he became rookie of the year. In 2017 he was crowned World Champion in the smallest category of the championship.
After a fleeting time in Moto2, in which he was again proclaimed rookie of the year, he arrived in the gold category in 2019. One year was enough for him to make history and become World Champion against all odds. The key to his success was the consistency he maintained throughout that atypical season. Joan is the fourth Spaniard in history to win a MotoGP championship, joining the likes of Álex Crivillé, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Márquez.
