Bezzecchi takes victory in Sprint Race at Assen

Dutch GP Sprint Race Results

Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) earned victory in the Sprint Race at the Dutch TT. Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) rounded off the podium on Saturday in Assen. The French rider moved up to the podium positions after a penalty given to Brad Binder (KTM) for repeatedly exceeding the track limits.

The riders completed a total of 13 laps of the Dutch track. Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), Brad Binder (KTM), Jorge Martín (Ducati), Maverick Viñales (Aprilia), Enea Bastianini (Ducati) and Álex Márquez (Ducati)  completed the Top 9 to claim points.

Bagnaia extends his lead over Jorge Martín in the series to 21 points.

On Sunday at 2pm (CEST), the MotoGP race will take place at Assen.

Learning for the Repsol Honda Team

Marc Márquez finished the race in the same position in which he started. After climbing several positions on the first few laps, the Repsol Honda Team rider battled for positions in the middle of the field throughout the race. However, in the end he was unable to keep up with his rivals and finished in 17th position.

Iker Lecuona crossed the finish line 20th in his second Sprint Race in MotoGP. This race helped him to gain experience with the Honda bike.

Statements

Marc Márquez

“I made a really good start to the race; I was able to make up a lot of positions in the first lap. Then I settled down a bit and just found my pace, focusing on myself. I was suffering a bit more today with the rib, especially in regard to breathing and using the pectoral in the best way. The goal for tomorrow is to finish the race. I also want to apologies to Enea for this morning, it was my mistake.”

Iker Lecuona

“I am really happy with how the day, and the weekend, has gone so far. We are improving with every run we do on the bike which is the goal. In Quali I found almost seventh tenths compared to Friday and I am getting closer and closer to the other Hondas. I’m happy with this. In the Sprint I made a good start but I played it safe in the opening corners. My pace improved over the race and I was able to overtake Bradl on the last lap. We need to check a few things tonight with the team, and hopefully I can make another step on Sunday.”
