What are @26_DaniPedrosa’s 5 favourite curves in #MotoGP?

“In Montmeló, near the farmhouse La Moreneta”

This is the first choice of the rider from Castellar del Vallés, and it is found at the Catalunya Grand Prix. Rather than a specific curve, it refers to an entire section of this Catalonian circuit. It begins at curve 5, downhill, on a curve to the left that opens up, taken in first gear. You get out by accelerating as much as possible, reaching about 350 km/h, passing through curve 6, arriving at the chicane braking section of curves 7 and 8, uphill already, next to the farmhouse. A spectacular section!

“The Sito Pons curve, in Jerez”

This is the fifth curve in the circuit, to the right, which requires leaning your bike. It goes slightly uphill at first but, the path immediately tilts down and descends towards the longest straight section of the circuit. In fact, as Dani himself says, it’s important to “make good use of the track and get a good start because otherwise it’s easy for others to overtake you in the next 300 metres, after tailgating, or the next time you brake”.

“The curve at the first bridge in Montegi”

We now travel to the home of Honda. Here we can find this section, which stretches until reaching the fast curve. This entire section is what Dani is referring to. The curve itself is a rightward turn with an angle of over 90º, which must be taken at about 80 km/h after sudden braking. You then go into the tunnel, accelerating and upshifting to 4th gear, arriving at curve 6 in the circuit.

“The big curve before the finish line, in Valencia”

This is another one of Dani’s favourite areas in the entire World Championship. It’s also a key place where world races and even titles have been decided. Mismanaging this curve and the next one can ruin all your possibilities at the finish line. It’s a long curve to the left, where the bike is constantly trying to drag you outward and where you can skid a lot. It connects directly with curve 14, the one at the entrance to the home stretch and what makes it different is that there are different ways of taking it.

“Curve 3 in Sepang”

The fifth space chosen by Dani is the third turn in the Sepang circuit: a long curve to the right after getting out of curve 2, which is especially slow. Here, the rider accelerates in 4th gear and stays at about 170 km/h for a few seconds, to then accelerate further and reach 260 km/h before getting to the next curve.
