A timing error on various zones on Saturday meant that the organisers decided to cancel the first of the three laps, meaning only the second and third would count.

Toni Bou started the 2020 season with an almost perfect performance, picking up just 1 penalty point on the second lap and 3 on the third. The Repsol Honda Team rider finished the first day on top, scoring a total of 6 points.

Takahisa Fujinami made some mistakes in Zones 5 and 9 that left him outside the podium places. He finished the first race at Isola 2000 in sixth position.

On the second day of competition, Bou was back on the podium -this time in third place with 41 points. He made a mistake on the second lap that prevented him from achieving his second victory of the weekend.

Fujinami, finished Day 2 of the French TrialGP in sixth position, scoring 53 points.

Bou leads the overall standings and Fujinami is sixth. The next event will be held in Pobladura de las Regueras, Spain, this coming weekend.

TrialGP 2020 FrenchGP – rider statements

Toni Bou

“It has been a very difficult day. My discomfort from yesterday continued and I had a pain in my back that caused cramps in my right arm. We were unhappy for most of the day and it was quite hard. I think that overall the weekend has been positive, considering the condition we are in. It will be a very difficult season for us as the races are very close together. Even so, we will fight to be as fit as possible for the next race.”

Takahisa Fujinami

“I didn’t start the first lap very well, but on the second I felt more comfortable with the bike and I was able to recover enough points to fight in the front. On the third and final lap I started well, but I made a lot of mistakes and I couldn’t recover from that. I eventually finished sixth, but this is not where I should be. During lockdown we worked very hard, but it is not the same as spending six hours on the bike. I’m sure everything will be better next time. We will fight to be in the Top 3.”
