The Repsol MotoGP and Trial riders visited Tarragona to promote the XVIII Mediterranean Games, which will be held during the summer of 2017 with Repsol as one of the main sponsors. Marquez, Pedrosa, Bou, Fujinami and Busto wanted to symbolise this support by posing for a photo together, accompanied by volunteers, organisers and local authorities at the city’s top landmark: The Roman amphitheater that is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

In addition, the Repsol riders will participate in an exhibition that will take place at the Tarraco Arena Plaza in front of 4,000 spectators. This will be a charity event, from which proceeds will go entirely to the Solc School, an institute dedicated to the education of children with special needs thath the riders visited this morning. The riders also visited the Repsol Industrial Complex in Tarragona, where they met with employees.

The Repsol riders have a combined 28 World Championships between them: 4 for Marquez, 3 for Pedrosa, 20 for Bou and 1 for Fujinami. Marquez and Pedrosa are the winners of the last two MotoGP rounds, at Misano and MotorLand respectively.

The XVIII Mediterranean Games will be held from June 30th to July 9th, 2017, in 16 municipalities around Tarragona. They will feature 33 sports, 4,000 athletes from 26 different nationalities, and 3,500 volunteers and more than 150,000 spectators are expected.

Marc Márquez

“We are very pleased to be here in Tarragona today, supporting the Mediterranean Games alongside Repsol. They are always a unique sporting event and will give great visibility to the city. In addition, we have been at the Solc School to see firsthand the great work that they do with children.”

Dani Pedrosa

“It’s always nice to come to Tarragona, which is such an important city for Repsol. We have had the opportunity to visit the Roman amphitheater, which is an emblem of the city. The work of the volunteers at the Mediterranean Games is key to making the event a success and I am sure that this will be the case.”

Toni Bou

“We can’t wait to put on a great show in the exhibition, which is for a good cause. We know that there are many motorsport fans in Tarragona and hopefully they will fill the venue, so that we can raise more money and help the children of the Solc School. It has also been nice to receive the welcome from the Repsol employees on our visit to the refinery.”
