Jorge Martín took his fifth sprint win of 2024 at the San Marino Grand Prix, snatching the holeshot and pulling away from his rivals from the second lap onwards for a standout victory.

He was followed by ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, who broke clear with Martín in the early stages but was unable to keep up with him in the closing laps to mount a serious challenge. The Spaniard finally established a definitive gap with two laps to go.

Franco Morbidelli completed the podium, having been cut slightly adrift in the latter part of the contest along with fourth placed finisher Enea Bastianini.

With falls early on for Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzechi, the group of points finishers was rounded off by Marc Márquez, Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder, Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo.

There was a positive sprint for Luca Marini, who managed to gain several positions off the line. The Italian, with a better feeling than during Friday, managed to stay in the fight for 14th position, in a group made up of seven riders for much of the race.

In the final stretch, the group was reduced to four. He diced with Raul Fernández, Alex Rins and Takaaki Nakagami for 17th, right until the finish line, finally finishing 18th. He was closer to the front than the previous weekend in Aragon.

Sunday’s race at Misano will be held at 2:00 p.m. local time.

Statements

Luca Marini

«I think the conditions on track changed a lot today. In the morning the grip was really good, even for us where it’s usually one of our weak points but in the race with the higher temperature the grip was less. The rear dropped more than I was expecting in the Sprint. Overall, it was a tough day and we have to keep on working to see what we can do for tomorrow in the long race.»
