Daniel Holgado and Máximo Martínez crowned FIM CEV Repsol champions in Valencia

Daniel Holgado and Máximo Martínez rounded off the FIM CEV Repsol season by being crowned champions in the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship and European Talent Cup, respectively, joining Moto2 European Champion Fermín Aldeguer in taking titles in 2021.

The day began with the track somewhat wet from rain on Saturday, and the first Moto3 race was slower than normal. However, a ninth place was enough for Holgado to win the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship. The winner of the first race was Joel Kelso, who made a great comeback after starting from 30th. In the second race, new champion Holgado closed the season with his fifth victory of the year, beating Ivan Ortolá on the line.

In the European Talent Cup, Máximo Martínez defended his advantage in the standings, achieving victory in the first contest and finishing sixth in the second. He was champion with a 17-point lead over Adrián Cruces. The winner of the second race was Álvaro Carpe, with his second triumph of the season.

In the Moto2 class, Alonso López beat teammate Fermín Aldeguer in a race that was ended with five laps remaining, due to a red flag.

Rider Statements

Joel Kelso, Moto3 race 1 winner.

“It’s incredible. Yesterday was a disaster, and nothing could have been worse. But today, with good weather, everything went better and I was able to join the front group quickly. It was a great race. It was easier than I thought it would be, so I’m very happy with the win.”

Daniel Holgado, Moto3 race 2 winner.

“Today has been the best day of my life. I have won the Junior World Championship in my last race with Team Aspar. I will always have them in my heart and I want to thank them for these two magnificent years -and all those who made these four years here in the FIM CEV Repsol possible. Thank you to everyone and to my fans for supporting me here and at home.”

Daniel Holgado, champion.

“I want to thank everyone who came to watch me today, I owe everything to them, because I felt the support and strength that I needed on the last laps. I want to thank all my team; they are incredible and I’m going to miss them a lot. Hopefully we’ll meet again in the future. I also want to congratulate David Muñoz and Ivan Ortolá, because they have had a great season and have been great rivals. Thanks to them I have been able to improve as a rider and also as a person, working hard day after day. Congratulations to them too.”

Alonso López, Moto2 race winner.

“It was a very difficult race and you had to take a certain amount of risks. In the end, we rode very fast because of the way the track was. After a very hard month, it feels very good to win this way. I want to thank my family and the team.”

Máximo Martínez, ETC race 1 winner.

“The race was very difficult, because there were still wet areas of the track that made the bike slide a lot. At the beginning, I tried to stick with Álvaro and, unfortunately, he fell. I hope he’s okay. Then I was able to break away a little and get clear from Jacob. I want to dedicate this race to Hugo Millán, Luis Salom, and of course to my entire team and my entire family.”

Álvaro Carpe, ETC race 2 winner.

“It was a very difficult race, very tough. This morning I suffered a very heavy crash at Turn 4 and I hurt my foot. We managed to win, and I feel very lucky to have my team and my family with me.”

Máximo Martínez, champion.

“I am very happy to have won the championship. It was very hard to achieve it. This would not have been possible without my team and family, so I thank them for everything. I also want to dedicate this championship to my whole family, to all the members of the team, Luis Salom’s mother and Hugo Millán’s family.”
