Zarco takes the win, followed by Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Australian Grand Prix was decided by a spectacular last lap, with an unexpected twist in the final stages. Starting from pole position, Jorge Mart\u00edn led from the first corner until the start of the last lap. The Spaniard had opened a lead of more than 3 seconds, helped by his decision to run a soft tyre. However, he was caught and passed by a group of four riders before the chequered flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winner was Johann Zarco, achieving his first victory in MotoGP, followed by World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who took the first podium of his career in the premier class. Fourth was Brad Binder, ahead of Mart\u00edn, Marco Bezzecchi, Jack Miller, Aleix Espargar\u00f3, \u00c1lex M\u00e1rquez and Enea Bastianini, who completed the Top 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Marquez_fades_and_Mir_crashes_out\"><\/span>M\u00e1rquez fades and Mir crashes out<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Marc M\u00e1rquez had a great start to the race from seventh position on the grid. The Repsol Honda team rider gained several positions and for much of the race he was in the group fighting for places from fifth to tenth. However, just as happened to Mart\u00edn, the choice of the soft tyre compromised him towards the end, and he lost ground to cross the line in fifteenth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joan Mir also made a good start and gained two positions. I was hoping for a slower race, but straight away Martin was pushing hard and I knew it would be a very fast race. At the start I really enjoyed the ten or so laps with Bagnaia and Zarco as we were fighting a lot. Then I needed to change my tactic and just focus on bringing the bike home as I was suffering more with tyre life. I was just trying to make my race, not hurting anyone, trying to take care of the tyres because you saw what happened at the end of the race. We were working in the correct way according to the data. Then Marini tried to overtake me and hit me, and I fell after losing the front. Being in the back, the situation is more complicated as the riders are fighting a lot \u2013 I was a victim of it today. But this is racing.
