Sergio García Dols, who started from twelfth on the grid, climbed nine positions and would ride as high up the order as third place. In the end, the Repsol Moto3 rider crossed the finish line fourth at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

Teammate Ryusei Yamanaka also made a great comeback, passing as many as 14 rivals. Yamanaka started the Portuguese Grand Prix from last place, but would eventually come in 17th, just 0.0088s outside the points.

García Dols and Yamanaka finish the season in 9th and 24th place, respectively, with 90 and 14 points to their name.

Portugal GP 2020 - Moto3 Race - Riders statements

Sergio García Dols

“It was a very closely fought race. At the beginning it was a bit difficult for me to find my pace, but when I did I gradually overtook other riders. On the final laps I had something in reserve, but when I wanted to attack the other riders had established a small gap and I was no longer able to fight on the last lap. I'm very happy and grateful to the whole team; I think we have felt good at the last few races, with two second places and a fourth. The results have ended up coming for us."

Ryusei Yamanaka

“My start was quite good. As the race progressed I felt good, gaining positions and also running a good pace. Halfway through the race I was able to catch up with some of the riders ahead of me, and I felt comfortable with how I was riding. I tried to keep up that steady pace, but I couldn't do it. I was up into 14th, but at the end 3 or 4 riders overtook me and it was very difficult for me to regain the position. I'm happy to have finished all of the races; next year I will have to push a lot more."
