A penalty carried over from the Spanish GP meant that Arón Canet started the French round of the Moto3 World Championship from twenty-eighth place on the grid. He overtook five riders by the end of the opening two corners, and passed another four before finishing the first lap.
Within six laps, the Repsol rider was at the front of the second group -two seconds behind the leaders- but constant overtaking amongst the pack prevented him from cutting the gap.
Canet would take the chequered flag in eighth, a result that allows him to add eight points to his tally. He is now third in the overall standings, seven points behind series leader, Marco Bezzecchi.
Alonso López, who was up to fourteenth on the second lap, made a mistake before the beginning of the third lap, which put him at the back of his group. He finally finished the race in nineteenth position.

“I gave it one hundred percent. On the first lap I managed to overtake nine riders and I continued to pass people until I reached twelfth position. However, in the middle of the race the group stretched out, there was a distance of almost two seconds to the front and without a slipstream it is very difficult to close that gap. We have to be happy because the bike went very well in the race and I had a very good pace when riding alone -almost as fast as the leading group. I just needed a better position at the start.”

“We found the race a little tough, but we already knew it would be difficult. On the second lap I went wide on a corner, lost several positions and joined a group that was quite slow. I was not riding comfortably throughout the race, but we will learn from the mistakes we have made this weekend and I am confident that at Mugello we will improve.”
